1. California- Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science

Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science is a historically black college and university. CDU is also a private and non-profit university founded and incorporated through the community of Los Angeles, California. CDU is named after African-American physician, Charles R. Drew who worked on blood plasma storage, blood banking and transfusion.

2. Pennsylvania- Lincoln University

       Lincoln University, originally known as the Ashmun Institute, was found by marble merchant, John Miller Dickey and his wife, Sarah Emlen Cresson who made many contributions to the African-American community. In honor of Abraham Lincoln, Ashman Institute was renamed Lincoln University on April 4th 1866.

3. Pennsylvania- Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.

Cheyney University is a private historically black college and university found by Richard Humphreys on February 25, 1837. The name of Cheyney University changed from the Institute for Colored Youth and the African Institute in 1913.

4. Virgin Islands- University of Virgin Islands

The University of Virgin Islands was found on March 16, 1962 as the College the of Virgin Islands. To showcase the progress of their institution and their community, the College of the Virgin Islands was renamed the University of Virgin Islands in 1986.

5. Oklahoma- Langston University

Langston University was found as the Oklahoma Colored Agricultural and Normal University in 1897. In 1941, Oklahoma Colored Agricultural and Normal University was changed to Langston University through an act of the Oklahoma Legislature. Langston University was named after African-American educator and Virginian Congressman, John Mercer Langston.
