Why HBCUs Should Celebrate Juneteenth

Why HBCUs Should Celebrate Juneteenth

On June 19, 1865, abolishment of slavery in Texas was announced and Juneteenth day on Freedom Day was created. This day is a crucial part of African American history and it is also an important day that all Historically Black Colleges and Universities should celebrate. Education was the closest way for any citizen of color to find freedom in the United States. If you were able to read, write or speak, you were able to escape and “fit into” society.

An HBCU was created for any citizen of color to learn and get a degree when it was prohibited at a predominantly white institution years ago. Therefore, it is important for all campuses to celebrate JuneTeenth this year and you can help your campus to celebrate it too!
