Claflin University To Offer Bachelor's Degrees To Inmates
Claflin University will now offer South Carolina inmates the chance to earn college degrees.
President Barack Obama started Second Chance Pell Experimental Sites. Claflin was selected by the US Department of Education to be one of those sites in 2021.
Inmates will earn degrees at no cost.
“A quality education is the gateway to empowerment and plays a critical role in the successful reentry of formerly incarcerated people into their respective communities,” said Dr Dwaun J Warmack, president of Claflin University.
The program will start in 2021. The degrees offered will be B.A. in Criminal Justice, B.A. in Psychology and B.S. in Organizational Management.
