5 Former HBCU Players To Participate In Super Bowl LV
One of the most elusive things to win in all of sports is a Super Bowl Ring. Five former HBCU players have a chance to do just that on February 7, 2021 when the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers collide in Super Bowl LV.
Tampa Bay has a chance to do something no other team has done. They will have a chance to win a Super Bowl in their home stadium. Tampa Bay has three former HBCU players in Ryan Smith (NCCU), Nick Leverett (NCCU) and Quinton Bell (PVAMU) on the active and practice rosters.
Quinton Bell was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 2019. He was released and picked up by Tampa Bay. He’s currently a defensive end on the practice squad.
Ryan Smith was drafted in the fourth round by Tampa Bay and has excelled as a special teams player.
Nick Leverett is a 6’4, 300 pound offensive lineman. He signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent.
The Kansas City Chiefs have two former South Carolina State stars in Alex Brown and Antonio Hamilton on the team. Brown was an undrafted free agent that originally signed with the San Francisco 49ers. This was his first year with Kansas City. Hamilton is a fifth year cornerback that went undrafted in the 2016 draft and was signed by the Oakland Raiders. This is also his first year with the Chiefs.
While we don’t know who will win, we know at least 2 former HBCU standouts will have a Super Bowl Ring by midnight on February 8, 2021.
