First Black Female Mayor Of St Louis is an HBCU Grad

Tishaura Jones, the current treasurer of St Louis, has been elected as the first black woman mayor of St Louis.

Mayor-elect Jones, a graduate of Hampton University and member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, received 52 percent of the vote to secure the win.

Ms Jones has spent the last 20 years as a public servant. In 2002, she was appointed as Democratic committeewoman for St Louis’ eighth ward. She served two terms in the Missouri House of Representatives, and she has been the treasurer of St Louis since 2013.

“it’s time for St Louis to thrive,” mayor-elect Jones said in her victory speech. “It’s time to bring a breath of fresh air to our neighborhoods.
