The Scholarships all HBCU Students Should Apple For

    College can be very expensive, especially at many HBCUs. Here are some scholarships that all HBCU students should be applying for:

Spike Lee’s Malcolm X Scholarship for Exceptional Courage:

    Spike Lee’s Malcom C Scholarship for Exceptional Courage is awarded to students who are currently attending a UNCF institution. The scholarship is usually due in January, awarding students up to $4,000 if students are able to submit a letter of recommendation, a transcript, two essays, a resume and an online application.

    Ron Brown Scholarship Program:

   The Ron Brown Scholarship Program awards high seniors $40,000 which is broken down to $10,000 per year. The scholarship program awards students who show an interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship. 

    Derrick Rose Scholars Program:

      The Derrick Rose Scholars Program was created by NBA athlete and point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Derrick Rose for students in their Sophomore, Junior and Senior years of high school. The Derrick Rose Scholarship is awarded to students who have the spirit of a leader, as well as an SAT score of 1230 and above as well as an ACT score of 21 or higher. Students who are interested in applying for the Derrick Rose Scholarship must submit an essay  about competition, their school’s information and their social media links.

    Jesse Jackson’s PUSH Excel Scholarship Program:

      The PUSH Excel Scholarship Program is geared towards helping students who lack the funds to pay for college. The PUSH Excel Scholarship does more than awarding students scholarships though, it pushes youth to strive for success in leadership and gaining a sense of community involvement. This scholarship program usually awards up to $25,000 to students in May.
